POLICE DEPARTMENT3 days agoAgencyHomicide (UPDATE BELOW) Previously Reported: (PEORIA, IL) Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at approximately 7:21 p.m. a Peoria police officer patrolling the 100 block of E. Forrest Hill heard shots being fired. Seconds later a Shot Spotter alert of three rounds fired was activated. When officers arrived, they located an adult male with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. The identity of the victim and cause of death will be released by the Peoria County Coroner. Members of the Peoria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID), Special Investigations Division (SID) Crime Scene Unit (CSU), and Patrol Unit responded to the scene and initiated an investigation. There is currently no suspect information. This incident is under investigation. UPDATE 5-16-24 During the course of this investigation, officers identified a suspect in this case as 20-year-old Messiah Z. Carpenter. Shortly after 6:15 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, Peoria Police Detectives served search warrants at two residences connected to Carpenter. Peoria Police Detectives coordinated with the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) and the Central Illinois Emergency Response Team (CIERT) to execute a court-authorized search warrant in the 500 block of N. Main Street in Hanna City, Illinois. Peoria Police SWAT executed an authorized search warrant in the 1900 block of N. Idaho in Peoria. Carpenter was taken into custody without incident at the Hanna City address and arrested for weapons offenses by PCSO Deputies. Carpenter was later charged by the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office with First Degree Murder. This incident remains under investigation. POLICE DEPARTMENT3 days agoAgencyOffense: Aggravated Battery with a Firearm (PEORIA, IL) Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at approximately 12:46 p.m. Peoria Police were dispatched to the area of Green and Jefferson on a report of a person shot. When officers arrived, they located an adult male (41 years old) with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital in critical condition. During the course of this investigation, officers learned that a confrontation between a group of people occurred at the above location and shots were fired. Members of the Peoria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID), Crime Scene Unit (CSU), Special Investigations Division (SID), and Patrol Unit responded to the scene and initiated an investigation. POLICE DEPARTMENT3 days agoAgencyMob Action/UUW (PEORIA, IL) Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at approximately 9:46 a.m. Peoria Police were dispatched to the 1700 block of N. Great Oak on a report of a group of males attempting to break into a residence. When officers arrived, they located the group adjacent to the residence. The adult males drove to the above location in a vehicle together. During a search of the vehicle officers located a handgun with a loaded magazine inside. Three of the males identified as 18-year-old Deshone J. Anderson, 23-year-old Colby B. Howard, and 21-year-old Brian L. Howard was taken into custody. Anderson was subsequently arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Possession of a Firearm without a Valid FOID Card, and Mob Action. Colby Howard and Brian Howard were arrested for Criminal Damage to Property and Mob Action. All three males were transported to the Peoria County Jail. POLICE DEPARTMENT2 days agoAgencyAggravated Battery/Stabbing (PEORIA, IL) Friday, May 17, 2024, at approximately 8:45 a.m. Peoria Police were dispatched to the 2700 block of W. Starr Street on a report of a stabbing. When officers arrived, they located an adult male with a stab wound to the abdomen. The male was immediately transported to a local hospital in serious condition. Members of the Peoria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID), Crime Scene Unit (CSU), and Patrol Unit responded to the scene and initiated an investigation. During the course of this investigation, officers took an adult male suspect into custody. The suspect was identified as 38-year-old Jeremy Williams. Williams was subsequently arrested for Aggravated Battery and transported to the Peoria County Jail. POLICE DEPARTMENT5 days agoAgencyAggravated UUW, Resisting, Recovered Ghost Gun (PEORIA, IL) Friday, May 10, 2024, at approximately 8:26 p.m. Peoria Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at NE Monroe and Handco*ck for a traffic violation. When officers approached the vehicle, they observed two adult subjects inside. Police observed the male passenger was not wearing a seat belt. While speaking with the driver, officers observed the passenger, identified as 34-year-old Aurice A. Leflore attempting to exit the vehicle. As officers attempted to detain Leflore he resisted and fled from officers on foot. Before fleeing from officers, a loaded handgun fell from Leflore’s waistband onto the ground. The Polymer 80 (Ghost Gun) was recovered by police. At approximately 9:40 p.m. Leflore was apprehended in the 700 block of Greenleaf and taken into custody. Leflore was then transported to the Peoria Police Department for interviewing purposes and was subsequently arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm without a Valid FOID Card, Obstructing Justice, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Resisting Police, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm with Defaced Identification, and two Active Warrants. Leflore was transported to the Peoria County Jail.
